Whether you are taking photos for regular content for social media, updating your corporate photography for your Annual Report, taking product photos for your online store or a couple of team profile shots for your website, new imagery will keep your Brand fresh… if you do it right.
Here are WISDOM’s Top 5 Tips for great corporate photography:
- Light it up! Lighting is everything in photography. If you don’t have professional lighting equipment, shoot in well lit area. Natural light, filtered through a window for internal shots is great. For outdoor shots, early morning or afternoon shots give a great light. Overcast days give the best filtered light for portrait photography.
- Get up Close and Personal. When shooting products, food and even people, don’t be scared to get right up close to the subject. The shallow depth of field will give you a nice blurred effect in the background, while your main asset will be in crisp focus.
- More is more. With digital photography, you can snap, snap and snap some more. The more photos you take, the more options you have. Don’t run the risk of only taking one shot, because it might not be the best. Remember to take both vertical and horizontal images for the many ways in which you may use your images.
- Au naturelle is best. When shooting people (with a camera), don’t get too posy. The images need to look as natural as possible. Have your subjects go about their regular routine within the situation and you move about them to capture the best angle. Likewise, corporate portraits don’t always have to be strictly business. Get some photos in casual poses, looking off camera or in a board room engaged in conversation.
- Dress up party. For product or food shots, you don’t have to shoot the items in isolation. Style your product in a setting with associated items. For food photography, this could be a table setting with other plates, cutlery, drinks and table decor. For products, it could be a nice tiled wall, wood countertop, some draped fabric, flowers or other associated things. And, because you are just styling for a photo, you can set up anywhere… on the floor, in the garden, in a nook that has a quirky corner, in the bathroom with the best light. As per point 2… zoom in tight and a close shot of your product.
